Flood Explorer

Flood Explorer simulates inland river flooding and allows students to investigate flood risks and impacts.

Investigate how geographic and environmental factors (topography, precipitation, permeability, the water table, and a changing climate) and human factors (increasing population, urbanization, and mitigation techniques) each play a role in the risk and impacts to communities vulnerable to river flooding.

Forest Fire Explorer

Forest Fire Explorer simulates wildfire spread in the boreal ecosystem.

Students add fire events to Forest Fire Explorer and learn how the process of forest succession is affected by multiple fires over time. Students can also use the simulation to explore the effects of climate change and carbon sequestration.

Geniventure

Geniventure engages students in exploring heredity, genetics, and proteins by breeding virtual dragons.

SageModeler is an intuitive web-based modeling tool for students to design, test, and refine models.

Students can use SageModeler as a diagramming tool, then define relationships between factors and run simulations without writing equations or programing. SageModeler uses CODAP to allow students to compare their model output with other data sets.

Seismic Explorer is a data visualization tool of up-to-date earthquake, volcanic eruption, and plate motion data.

Explore patterns in earthquake magnitude, depth, location, frequency, and volcanic eruption distribution on Earth’s surface, and connect this data to tectonic plate motion. Use the cross-section tool to dive under the surface to see earthquake patterns along different plate boundaries

TecRocks Explorer is an interactive simulation of tectonic environments and the rocks that form in these environments.

Students can use TecRocks Explorer to investigate rock formation within the context of an Earth-like planet. They can sample the rocks that form in different tectonic environments, such as at convergent and divergent plate boundaries.

Tectonic Explorer

Tectonic Explorer is an interactive simulation of tectonic plate movement and interactions.

Students can use Tectonic Explorer to explore how the movement and interactions of tectonic plates shape a planet’s surface features, such as mountains, trenches, and volcanoes.

Wildfire Explorer

Wildfire Explorer simulates the effects of multiple environmental factors on the spread of wildfires.

Investigate factors that affect the spread rate and intensity of wildfires such as terrain, vegetation type, drought level, and wind conditions. A graph showing acres burned over time allows students to use mitigation measures such as firelines and helitacks to help contain the fire.
