Broken Calculator
The Broken Calculator helps students develop computational fluency by solving problems with a "broken" calculator. For example, a baker packs 315 buns into boxes of 8. How many boxes will the baker need? The division key is broken! Students must find ways to solve the problem, evaluate the solutions, and explain their reasoning.
CCProbe for Palm OS
Download one of these files to get a copy of CCProbe that runs on your Palm handheld computer.
All four of the following links start the download of an archive that includes the Palm application CCProbe.prc and the Teemss project LabBook, LabBook.PDB. After downloading look for the archive file on your desktop or wherever your browser saves downloaded files. Install these files on your Palm using the Palm Desktop HotSynch program. Each download includes a ReadMe file with more detailed installation instructions.
Molecular Workbench - Self Assembly
Students learn the necessary conditions for self-assembly (random motion and molecular stickiness), play with some example models of self-assembling biological structures (dimers, fibers and microtubules), and then design their own self assembly structures.
Molecular Workbench Software
4 resources
The Molecular Workbench is a set of tools that can be used to compute and visualize the motion of ensembles of atoms and molecules. The motion of each entity is calculated using classical dynamics and applicable forces, including van der Waals potentials, Coulomb interactions, harmonic approximations to bonds, external fields, effective hydrophobic/hydrophilic forces, as well as boundaries and bond formation/breaking rules. Mesoscale objects and their interactions based on the Gay-Berne model are supported. The resulting ensembles can illustrate energy conservation, gas laws, pressure, phase transitions, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, catalysis, Maxwell velocity distribution, heat transfer, osmosis, electrolysis, electrophoresis, liquid crystals, polymers, protein folding, molecular recognition, and more.
Molecular Workbench also provides an authoring interface that can be used to easily create activities based on molecular dynamics simulations.
Older Software

We have produced a good deal of software over the years. Most of it is linked to from here.
Pedagogica Explorer
The successor to our Genscope, BioLogica™, and DEUCE software, Pedagogica Explorer includes activities in the topics of Biology: Genetics, Physics: Mechanics, and Chemistry: Atoms and Gas Laws.
To get the stand-alone version of this sofware, simply click on the Mac or Windows icon below.
A special version of this software reported the data it collected to our servers for additional processing. Teachers and students could then login to the web portal to get reports about their progress on the activities, to check scores on tests, etc.
Note: Some activities may have problems with items from previous screens remaining on subsequent screens. To help with this problem, try minimizing the window and then un-minimizing it.
Population Explorer
The CC Population Explorer lets you simulate population growth and contraction due to environmental issues, mutations, and genetic factors.
Seeing Math Interactives
5 resources
Seeing Math™ has developed a series of interactive software that clarify key mathematical ideas for teachers and students of algebra.
You can now run our Seeing Math™ interactives within our Molecular Workbench software. Click on the JNLP link below to try it.
TEEMSS Sound Grapher
The TEEMSS Sound Grapher is the Concord Consortium's simple sound graphing tool.
VideoPaper Builder 3 - English and Spanish Versions
VideoPaper Builder 3 is a multimedia creation tool for users of any level of technology skills. It imports hypertext (HTML text), image, and video files, and assists the user in synchronizing these files as a single, user-navigated multimedia web document. VideoPaper Builder 3 generates menus, links, framesets and slide shows, and organizes the imported files as an HTML coded document viewable in a web browser. Videopapers can be published in CD-ROM or posted on the Internet.
ZoomIt!
ZoomIt! takes you on a tour of the universe viewed at different powers of ten. The new version of ZoomIt! is built using our Molecular Workbench software.
Run ZoomIt! now
Previous Version
The previous version (available by clicking on the Windows or Mac software links) used a VRML Plugin and the Internet Explorer browser (sorry, Netscape is incompatible). The required Cortona VRML browser plugin creates a 3D environment allowing users to navigate through their environment in a wide range of scales. After downloading the "Zoomit-v19.zip" file, unzip it creating the "ZoomIt v19" folder. Open this folder and double click on the "index.html" file.
