Collecting data

You will record the conditions within your container with a clear plastic wrap cover (simulated Earth atmosphere) and with a bubble wrap cover (simulated Venus atmosphere).

Simulated Earth atmophere
  1. Place your container outside in direct sunlight. Prepare a clear plastic wrap cover that will be held on by a rubber band.

  2. Press (and hold) the Start button on the MicroLog™ for one second. Your MicroLog™ will alternately display numeric data for percent humidity and air temperature.

  3. Immediately cover the container with the plastic wrap.

  1. Leave the clear wrap on the container for at least ten minutes.

How did the temperature change inside your container? What caused the change in temperature?

Simulated Venus atmosphere

  1. After ten minutes replace the clear plastic wrap with bubble wrap. Again, attach the cover with a rubber band.

  1. Wait another ten minutes, and then press the Stop button.

Did the change in the type of cover affect the temperature within the container? If so, can you explain why?
