Software Portfolio and Project Manager
Ready to help manage the development of a diverse portfolio of cutting-edge educational software?
As a software portfolio and project manager, you’ll be the key facilitator of the Concord Consortium’s software Agile development planning and execution. In addition, you’ll be a technical producer on our Google-funded project to bring the Molecular Workbench to the Web using HTML5.
In addition, you will:
- coordinate the quarterly master schedule for a portfolio of software development projects in an Agile development environment
- drive process improvement for a diverse and overlapping project portfolio
- work with researchers and curriculum developers to identify and refine long- and short-term development goals and support proper risk taking and risk management
- manage the technical development of the next-generation Molecular Workbench software to meet development goals in a timely fashion and ensure a high level of polish and usability
- work closely with curriculum and business development staff to coordinate software development with other Molecular Workbench project goals
- facilitate project planning and demo meetings for 2-4 projects weekly
- aid project staff in writing and refining user stories
- facilitate regular retrospectives for developers and project staff
- coordinate cross-project use of resources to encourage synergy and innovation
- work closely with senior developers on cross-cutting software design for long-term educational technology projects
- supervise staff in charge of on-site support and systems administration
- drive forward technical planning and upgrades for facilities and infrastructure
- oversee hiring of technical staff and consultants
To accomplish this, you need:
- a high degree of initiative and flexibility to adapt to quickly changing conditions
- prior experience at managing staff and software development projects
- excellent interpersonal, and negotiation skills
- the ability to quickly understand and fluently communicate technical concepts to both developers and laypeople
- proven responsibility and independence

You will be even more successful if you have experience with or interest in:
- science, mathematics, or related fields
- software development in JavaScript, Ruby / Rails, jQuery, SproutCore, or Java
- working on an Agile development team
- long-range software development projects
- modern software patterns and practices
- user interface development
- deeply beautiful design of products and practices
- cloud-based deployment
- teaching, learning, and educational technology
